Ubuntu Training is delighted to partner with the UK-registered charity ‘Belief in Action’ (BiA) in a sustainable approach to helping improve the lives of disabled and disadvantaged people in Romania.

Working collaboratively with a Romanian-registered charity (Hope Without Limits) based near Braşov, BiA facilitates the provision and development of services for disabled children and adults in two main ways:

  • Resourcing a disability equipment loan scheme – by transporting equipment, such as mobility aids & hospital beds, destined for the UK landfill to the project.  The local team can assess and provide what is needed to people for who this equipment is inaccessible

  • Facilitating healthcare volunteer trips, providing training and specialist resources for skills development and knowledge exchange. Ubuntu has also delivered workshops to the local physical therapy programme at the University of Transylvania.“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”

BiA also collaborates with PhysioNet and Medequip. The University of Plymouth has evaluated the Equipment Loan Scheme, and the results will be published shortly.

So why not get involved? It's great for your CPD and for gaining experience in overseas practice. We need:

  • People to gather more equipment from around the UK to keep it out of landfill & get it to areas of the world where it is desperately needed

  • Funds to help transportation

  • Volunteers willing to give time & skills

  • Cyclists, walkers & tourists for unique trips which are building self-sufficiency for Hope Without Limits in Romania (in partnership with Graft for Growth https://www.graft4growth.co.uk/ )

“I went to Săcele for a week. With very few resources or infrastructure, the service provision is incredible…. The clients are treated as family, with nothing too much trouble to organise. There is a real ‘can do’ attitude, with the question being asked ‘Why not?'”

Donna Bayliss, Head of ESD and Neuro, Wiltshire Health and Care
